Living On Every Word is the radio ministry of Cottonwood Baptist Church in Dublin, TX. The purpose of this ministry is to make Christ known by sharing His Word on the radio and internet. Our desire is that through this ministry non-believers might come to know Him and that believers might grow in their walk with Him. The producer of Living On Every Word is Wayne Trimble, head of Cottonwood's media ministries, who came to Cottonwood in 2001, after 13 years working behind the cameras in Hollywood. His credits included such critically acclaimed and Emmy Award-winning TV series as Northern Exposure, Picket Fences, and The Practice. Experiencing his rebirth in Christ late in 1999, Wayne felt the Lord calling him out of Hollywood back to his Texas roots. By 2001, Wayne was ready to make that move with his wife, Rebecca, and their two young daughters, even though it was a huge leap of faith. "Moving from an area of 13 million (Southern California) to a town of 13 hundred (in nearby Hico, TX), my employment options were somewhat limited, to say the least," he said. "That's where the faith came in, and the surrender too. Not only did I know that if God was calling us here, He would provide; but I also had to die to my dreams - telling the Lord that if the photo department at Wal-Mart was the closest thing to my Hollywood resume, that I would gladly embrace that." Once in Texas, employment did not come in the form of an employer, however. "Once we'd committed to moving," Wayne said, "God confirmed His faithfulness by providing me with a lightly used digital video camera for only 500 bucks. It's like He was telling me, 'This is how I'll provide for you.' So I formed my own production company, and started producing videos locally. The Lord provided, and continues to provide, in every way." Within weeks of their arrival, Wayne and Rebecca were attending Cottonwood. "I remember the first time I heard Mike Fritscher preach," Wayne said. "I remember thinking, I want what he has! So passionate was Mike about Christ and His Word, and so real, we knew this was the place for us." Media ministry at Cottonwood in 2001 basically consisted of two overhead projectors and a simple sound system. Under the leadership of Robert Hooper, former Tarleton State University Chief of Police and church elder, an audio tape ministry was in place serving the church body. Late in 2001, "Chief" personally acquired a CD recorder to begin digital audio recordings of sermons. About that time, Wayne felt the Lord calling him to start videotaping the services, making copies available to the body. "Little did we know at the time what the Lord was up to," Wayne said, "but we all sensed He was up to something. Looking back, it's easy to see He was putting into place all the pieces of the puzzle; that puzzle being the ministry He had in mind for us." In December 2001, things began getting much clearer. Grieg Mayberry, host of the Sunday Morning Gospel Show on local KSTV radio, and a member at Cottonwood, called and said they were looking to fill a 30-minute slot on Sunday mornings. Wayne was asked if he could produce a thirty-minute radio program, and he said "Yes." "I'd never done any radio before," he said, "but I knew in my spirit it was the right thing to do." On January 6, 2002, A Word to Live By aired for the very first time. Based on Matthew 4:4, the program name embodies a theme central to the proclamation Jesus made of God's Word: that "man shall not live on bread alone, but on every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of God." Producing the radio program was exhilarating for Wayne, as he quickly developed a passion for serving the Lord in this way. "It’s always the highlight of my week, putting the radio program together," he said. One reason Wayne is so passionate about producing the radio program is because years before he had come to know the power of the Word on radio on a very personal level. When God began to really stir in his life while living in Southern California in 1999, he used a radio ministry to feed him spiritually. That program was The Word For Today, featuring Calvary Chapel/Costa Mesa's Pastor Chuck Smith, which he had found simply by pushing the seek button on his radio dial while driving south on the 405 freeway one day. The frequency landed on this program, and he received the right Word at the right moment... and was forever changed. "That's what I love about this ministry," Wayne said. "We can record great sermons, we can produce them, and get the air time, but it is God, through the work of His Holy Spirit, who orchestrates this intersection of the right Word at the right time for the right heart. It is truly all about Him." It was this passion for the Word and sharing it in this way that birthed the vision of a radio ministry that extends beyond the listening area of Dublin,TX. When this concept was realized and set in motion, a trademark search revealed a conflict with another national Christian radio ministry. A Word to Live By became Living On Every Word. "In a lot of ways, I like the name Living On Every Word better," Wayne said. "It's more active. It takes the concept from sitting and soaking in it (the Word) to doing it on a daily basis. Not just hearing it, but living it." What does the future hold for Living On Every Word? "Truly, God only knows," Wayne says, "and I say that with all sincerity. When I set up that camera at the back of the auditorium in 2001, I thought God was starting a television ministry. Little did I know He had a radio ministry in mind. Now that we are in a position to grow and expand and become a nationwide radio ministry, perhaps it will be more about reaching people on the internet. It could be that within five years, we'll have more people listening online than over the airwaves, no matter how many radio stations we end up on. Regardless, it's all very exciting, and I'm very grateful He's allowed me to be a part of this." "No matter what the future holds for Living On Every Word, true success will never be measured by the numbers except for one," Wayne says. "If, because of one Word one single life is changed by the love of Christ - the One - for all eternity, this has been without a doubt - so very worth it." |
